About

ll try my best to keep it short…

Music

I’ve been playing, singing, and writing music for as long as I can remember – playing piano and singing in church, choirs in school, etc. When I was 12, I decided I was bored with the piano and taught myself to play guitar. From then on, I took a guitar almost everywhere I went. My professional plunge into music came when I was 15. Too young to drive, I convinced my mom to drive me around Atlanta with my guitar and sound equipment.

In 1999, I was awarded runner-up in the Lilith Fair Talent search. Around that time, I also completed an album – Tequila Mockingbird, which is now available for purchase through me, CDBaby, iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, etc.

Web Development

In 2000, I packed up and headed for Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. I considered majoring in Religious Studies, but settled on Computer Science for the much lighter essay-writing requirements. I discovered a love second to music – computer programming. Like the guitar, I mostly taught myself – learning HTML, database structures, ASP, and any other language or technology that I could get my hands on. I graduated from Hollins in 2004 with a degree in Computer Science.

I’m definitely a coder and love programming. Some of the things I’m passionate about and/or love doing are:
Java, JSP, developing JSP tag libraries, database design, PHP, WordPress, customizing WordPress themes and plugins, CSS, administering Atlassian JIRA and Confluence, developing plugins and themes for JIRA and Confluence, and particularly bringing small/medium businesses into the world of the web through custom web presences, collaboration tools, and social media.

The Rest

Music and Web Development are two flags I bear and are my primary signatures. There are, of course, many other things that define me and things from which I draw passion and inspiration. I live in the Augusta, GA area and love it. I do what I can to participate in and foster growth within those communities in the CSRA of which I am a part. I volunteer my time, development, and web hosting to Lokal Loudness, which represents the local music community. I am also a member of Refresh Augusta.

The journey to find truth and meaning is incredibly important to me. My experience in Religious Studies education was either a natural progression of that or a catalyst – I’m not exactly sure which. I currently attend the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta, GA. In my personal search, I’ve made the commitment to eliminate all animal products from my diet and life, and have been vegan since May of 2008. I feel like it’s impossible to be 100% vegan, but I also think it’s my responsibility to make the effort.
